The Hermes Playing Card Oracle
The Hermes Playing Card Oracle is a masterful reimagining of the traditional playing card deck, blending timeless utility with rich symbolic depth. Each of the 54 cards—52 standard playing cards and two Jokers—is adorned with an emblematic image, drawn from the lineage of historic oracle decks, inviting layers of meaning and reflection.
This deck reclaims the heritage of cards as both a tool for recreation and a medium for exploring archetypal symbols. Unlike typical oracle decks, where the playing card design is merely a footnote, the Hermes Playing Card Oracle honors the integrity of the classic card structure, integrating symbolic imagery without overshadowing its origins. The emblems reflect the tradition of the Lenormand system, appearing on the Ace, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and court cards. By setting aside the 2 through 5 pip cards, the deck transitions effortlessly into the format of a Lenormand oracle.
The cards can be arranged in traditional patterns, such as the Grand Tableau—a format that captures the dynamic interplay between the cards’ meanings and positions. When used in its full form, the Grand Tableau consists of six rows of nine cards, while the Lenormand format uses four rows of eight cards, with a fifth row of four placed at the center.
With its dual functionality and meticulous design, The Hermes Playing Card Oracle offers a harmonious balance between tradition and innovation, inviting players and seekers alike to engage with its layered possibilities.
